2022 Development Projects by Sector January – June

Logistics projects, primarily for e-commerce, saw the most activity YTD, which is no surprise, given St. Charles County and Missouri’s reputation as one of the most cost-effective locations in the US for companies looking to expand their domestic and global market shares. The County’s central location and sophisticated transportation infrastructure allow products to be anywhere in the US – including major coastal ports – in a matter of days.

Additionally, St. Louis Lambert International Airport’s new non-stop service to Frankfurt, Germany, is expected to be a major draw for companies with a European presence and enhance the region’s international connectivity even further.

The volume of development projects year-to-date is especially remarkable, given the year is only halfway through. Throughout the past decade, St. Charles County has typically seen 3 to 4 million square feet of new major development per year. More than 6 million is a new record, and the year isn’t over yet.

EDC President & CEO Scott J. Drachnik pointed to factors such as St. Charles County’s ongoing population growth, access to local and regional talent pools, excellent infrastructure, available sites and buildings, and the growing cluster of blue-chip companies such as Amazon, Nike, and General Motors as drivers of the development boom. “Companies are looking for growing communities that can meet their workforce and infrastructure needs,” he remarked. “St. Charles County checks both of those boxes.”
