General Motors: Thriving in St. Charles County for Nearly 40 Years

The General Motors plant in Wentzville will soon produce the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Production of the new models was made possible by $1.5 billion in upgrades to the facility—Missouri‘s largest-ever private investment. The new products are expected to hit the market in early 2023.

“People here at the plant take great pride in what we produce,” said Plant Executive director Lamar Rucker in a recent interview. “These vehicles go across the world. And they’re in high demand.”

The Wentzville plant, which has been part of the St. Charles County community for almost 40 years, is the third-largest GM production plant in the world. With more than 4,000 employees, the plant is one of the largest employers in the region and recently topped a St. Louis Business Journal ranking of the largest manufacturers in the St. Louis region by the number of employees.
